Division I Panthers Take Down Visiting Tigers 7-0

Charleston, Ill.- The DePauw women's tennis team fell to Division I Eastern Illinois University 7-0 on the road. The Tigers drop to 4-10 for the season, while the Panthers improve to 10-8 overall.
 
Eastern Illinois tallied its first point after Brittany Steven and Madeline Monroy of EIU defeated Kat Wilder and Ellen Gardner 6-1 at number two. The Panthers earned its second point of the evening at number one when Christine Gouws and Addison Brown beat Sonal Matta and Kiley Shaw 6-2. Completing EIU's doubles sweep were Lauren Ellis and Elizaveta Bukraba-Ulanova defeated Alex Preston and Valerie Doherty 6-3 on court three.
 
In singles play at number three, the Panthers' Brown beat Wilder 6-0, 6-1, clinching the match for EIU. Eastern Illinois continued its dominance tacking on three more wins to sweep the evening. On court one, Gardner fell to EIU's Gouws 6-0, 6-1, and on court two Bukraba-Ulanova defeated Matta 6-0, 6-3. Doherty lost to the Panthers Monroy 6-2, 6-3 on court four.
 
DePauw's Shaw battled against the Panthers' Ellis but ultimately fell 5-7, 6-3, 10-3 on court five. In the final match of the evening, Franny Werner came from behind to force a tiebreaker but fell to Emma Pilpovic-Kljajic 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 10-6 on court six.
 
DePauw travels to Atlanta, Georgia, on Saturday, March 25, and faces Emory University at 2 p.m.
