Elizabethtown, Ky. - DePauw opened weekend play at Transylvania's Pioneer Classic and dropped a pair of games to Defiance (10-5) and George Fox (10-2). The Tigers moved to 4-8 with the losses and face Transylvania tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
In the opener against Transylvania, DePauw scored one each in the first two innings, but Defiance scored one in the second, two in the third and four in the fourth to grab a 7-2 advantage.
The Tigers responded with RBI doubles from
Emily Timberman and
Katie Mathies to trim the deficit to 7-4, but the Yellow Jackets scored three in the sixth to pull away.
Ella Ohrvall had two of DePauw's eight hits, while Anika Craft and Ali Mowen each had three of Defiance's 16.
Riley Magoon took the loss, while Craft picked up the complete game win.
George Fox scored four in the first and three in the second in the second game of the day before
Drew Bratcher put the Tigers on the board in the third with an RBI single that scored
Goose Moore.Â
The Bruins' Reagan Medina hit a solo homer in the sixth and Sharon Tomei clubbed a two-run shot in the seventh before
Goose Moore drove in
Abby Pyburn with a seventh-inning ground out.
Bratcher and Pyburn each had two of DePauw's eight hits with Medina finishing with two of the Bruins' eight hits.
Kandra Butcher took the loss in the circle for DePauw with Ashley Davis picking up the win.
