Emily Napier's goal with six seconds left in regulation forced overtime and
Caleigh Claar's score with 54 seconds left in the first overtime gave DePauw an 11-10 win at Aurora. The Tigers improved to 4-1, while the Spartans dropped to 4-1.
Aurora took a 4-2 lead into the second period and then pushed it to 7-2 before the Tigers closed out the first half with a pair of scores to cut the lead to 7-4.
Bridget Driscoll and
Abby Keane added scores in the first four minutes of the third to close the gap to 7-6.
The hosts, however, pushed the lead back to 9-6 and then 10-7 midway through the fourth. Claar and
Graesen Campbell each scored to trim the Aurora lead to 10-9 with 4:17 remaining. Aurora turned the ball over with just over 10 seconds left and Napier scooped up the ball and fired the game-tying shot.
In the overtime, Aurora hit the post on two shots before
Lydia Hollis saved a free position shot and the Tigers took possession and got the ball to Claar who delivered the game-winning goal.from the right side.
Abby Keane led the Tigers with three goals, while Claar,
Bridget Driscoll and Napier each had two. Jalyn Yaukovitz paced Aurora with four goals and Monique Gibson scored three.
Lydia Hollis recorded 10 saves for the Tigers and Alexis Crowley had nine for Aurora.
DePauw outshot Aurora, 28-26, and held a 30-27 edge in ground balls. Aurora led in draw controls, 13-12.
Claar led the Tigers with five ground balls, while Driscoll caused three turnovers and had six draw controls. Caley Russell and Gibson each had four ground balls with Gibson totaled nine draw controls.
DePauw returns to action on Saturday, March 18, with a 1 p.m. game at Adrian.
