Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw women's tennis team dominated the Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers in its 9-0 home victory. The Tigers improved to 2-9 overall, while the Fightin' Engineers moved to 7-8 for the season.
DePauw found its footing against Rose-Hulman early in the doubles play, going 1,2,3 for a 3-0 advantage heading into singles matches.
Sonal Matta and
Kiley Shaw defeated Taylor Goldman and Wynne Aldrich 8-0 on court one, followed by
Ellen Gardner and
Kat Wilder beating Camille Clark and Julia McGuire 8-1 on court two. Completing the doubles sweep on court three were
Valerie Doherty and
Alex Preston, who defeated the Fightin' Engineers' Ruby Kauffman and Ella Dorfmueler 8-1.
Bella DeNardo on court six extended the Tigers' lead to 4-0 after beating Rose-Hulman's Violet Keith 6-1, 6-0. Over on court three, Wilder clinched the win for DePauw after she defeated Dorfmueller 6-1, 6-0.
The Tigers continued to dominate in its singles matches, with Matta defeating Aldrich 6-2, 6-1 on court two, on court five, Shaw beat Clark 6-1, 6-0, and soon after, Gardner defeated Goldman 6-4, 6-1. The final win of the night was on court four, where Doherty beat Kauffman 6-0, 6-3.
DePauw returns to Greencastle on Wednesday, March 15, at 4:30 p.m. to host Marian University (Ind.).
