St. Louis, Mo. - DePauw wrapped up its weekend at WashU with a split of its games today as the Tigers dropped an 11-6 contest to Wartburg before coming back to top the host Bears, 5-2. The Tigers moved to 4-6 on the season.
WashU took a 1-0 lead against the Tigers in the bottom of the first as Erin Reardon led off with a single, moved to second on Brooke Capparell's sacrifice bunt and scored on Natalia Pilpil's double.
DePauw countered with a score in the top of the second as
Riley Heim led off with a single and stole second.
Madi Lockridge entered as a pinch-runner and scored on a throwing error after
Emily DuMais' single.
Catryn Cattoor led off the WashU second with a double, advanced to third on Kayla Nommensen's fly out and scored on Olivia Craycraft's double to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.
The Tigers tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth as
Kelsey Bernhard led off with a double, stole third and scored on
Alyssa Anderson's sacrifice fly. They then took the lead in the fifth with
Goose Moore starting the inning with a triple and coming home on
Brooke Bruin's ground out.
DePauw added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh as
Abby Pyburn and Moore each scored on wild pitches.
Moore led the Tigers with three of their 11 hits, while Cattoor had two of the Bears' six hits.
Kersten Brayton picked up the win and improved to 1-1 with
Kandra Butcher collecting her first save. Holly Stoner dropped to 2-1 with the loss.
In the opener against Wartburg, the Knights took a 1-0 lead in the second before DePauw responded with three in the bottom half of the frame as
Drew Bratcher led off with a walk and pinch-runner
Macey Cox scored when
Emily Minett doubled.
Emma Konrad came in to run for Minett and scored when Lockridge reached on an error. Later in the inning,
Alyssa Anderson singled home Lockridge.
Wartburg came back with four each in the third and fourth innings and two in the fifth for an 11-3 lead. DePauw kept the game going in the fifth as
Ashtyn Barnett doubled and advanced to third on the throw, Moore came in to run for Barnett and scored on a wild pitch. DePauw added two more in the seventh.
Five different Tigers had one hit each, while Kaylie Springer led Wartburg with four of its 14 hits.
Riley Magoon took the loss and dropped to 0-2, while Ashley Nelson improved to 4-4.
The Tigers compete in Transylvania's Pioneer Classic, March 18-19, in Elizabethtown, Ky.
