Lexington, Ky. - DePauw jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third against Transylvania, but the Pioneers scored at least once in each of the fourth through eighth innings and defeated the Tigers, 9-1. DePauw dropped to 4-7, while Transylvania improved to 6-5.
Tyler Gilmore led off the DePauw third with a single and moved to second on
Ben Greiner's base hit. Each moved up on a wild pitch and Gilmore scored on a throwing error.
Transylvania evened the score in the bottom of the fourth as Trent Yougblood singled and moved to second on Trent Pahl's sacrifice bunt. Youngblood stole third and scored when Henry Mitcham reached on an error.Â
The Pioneers took the lead in the fifth with a pair of runs before adding single scores in the sixth and seventh and four in the eighth.
Greiner and
Ty Sucher each had two of DePauw's five hits. Youngblood had three of Transylvania's nine hits.
Johnny Curry took the loss in relief with Jacob Moberly improving to 1-0. Matt Armstrong collected his first save of the season.
The Tigers return to action on March 18 with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Walker Field against University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy in St. Louis.
