Riley Mont poured in a career-high 26 points as DePauw stayed atop the North Coast Athletic Conference standings with a 66-54 win over visiting Denison. The Tigers moved to 15-7 overall and 10-1 in the NCAC with its eighth straight win, while the Big Red dropped to 8-14 overall and 3-8 in the conference.
The Tigers took an 18-14 lead into the second period, but Denison scored the first seven points of the second and the teams went to halftime tied, 32-32.
Denison's Mikaila Carpenter hit one-of-two free throws on Denison's first possession of the third, but DePauw came right back as Mont buried a three. The Big Red evened the score at 35-35 before DePauw'sÂ
Moira McGinley and
Mya Shannon hit buckets which gave the hosts a 39-35 lead. The Tigers led by as many as six late in the third before taking a 49-44 lead into the final period.
Abigail Westmeyer's 3-pointer on Denison's first possession of the fourth trimmed the DePauw lead to 49-47, but Mont's three-point play and
Ava Hassel's fast break layup pushed the Tigers' lead to seven. A Big Red basket closed the gap to five before the Tigers rattled off six straight to make it 60-49 with 4:13 left. Denison countered with a basket, but another 6-0 DePauw run sealed the victory.
Mont's 26-point outing came on 10-of-18 shooting from the field including 3-of-5 from three-point range. McGinley added 12 and Hassel finished with 11. Mont and
Lydia Stullken each had six rebounds.Â
Carpenter led Denison with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. with Molly Fisher dishing out four assists.
DePauw shot 41.1 percent from the floor to Denison's 34.5 percent and the Tigers held a 35-34 rebounding edge.
The Tigers travel to Oberlin on Saturday, Feb. 11, for a 1 p.m. NCAC contest.
