Greencastle, Ind.- Earning its second win of the season, the DePauw men's lacrosse team beat the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders 9-8 in overtime. DePauw moves to 2-1 for the season, while the Raiders drop to 0-1.
The Tigers dominated early, going up 4-1 in the first period.
Beckett Tasker recorded the night's first goal midway through the first period. Up 1-0, DePauw kept its lead until MSOE's Dawson Smith gathered a pass from Sam Thompson in a man-up situation to knot the game up at one.
Just two minutes after the Raiders tied the game, Tasker found
Henry White for his first of five goals for the night to put the Tigers back up by one. By the end of the first period, White tacked on two more to put DePauw up 4-1 heading into the second period.
In the second period, DePauw continued to find the back of the Raiders' net, and with 5:52 left in the period,
Jack Flynn extended the Tigers' lead to four. Not backing down, however, MSOE slowly began to chip away at DePauw's lead, trading goals with the Tigers throughout the period. Following Flynn's goal, the Raiders' capitalized on its second man-up opportunity after Riley Woyatas snuck a ball to Kyle Hedblom to get MSOE within three. Tasker's goal at 2:51 put DePauw back up 6-2 but was answered by Peter Russchenberg with just 22 seconds left in the half to cut the lead in half.
Down 6-3, MSOE opened the second half with a quick goal with 14 minutes left in the period to bring the Raiders within two. However, thanks to another set of back-to-back goals from White, the Tigers were back up 8-4. White's fourth goal of the night came in the 12th minute off a dish from
Eli Federman, and his fifth came after a steal in the Tigers' offensive third coming from behind the net.
Despite having a four-goal cushion over the Raiders, MSOE took control of the final minutes of the third period and shut down the Tigers in the fourth, ultimately tying the game at eight goals apiece. With a man-up advantage heading into overtime, DePauw took its time to find the best look on goal. Finally, two minutes into overtime, White crashes the net and skips a pass to a wide-open Federman, who shoots and scores the golden goal for the win.
DePauw outshot MSOE, 40 -26, held a 30-22 edge in ground balls. The Tigers were 11-19 in won faceoffs, winning eight of DePauw's faceoffs was
Matthew Roman and the Raiders John Kubicki winning 8 -out-of-16. In goal,
Sebastian Schaefer totaled six saves for DePauw, and starting goalie for the Raiders, Thomas Miles had eight saves, while teammate Darian Stricker had one for the night.

White led the Tigers with five goals and one assist, while Tasker recorded two goals and an assist. Russchenberg of MSOE led the Raiders with three goals, and teammates Dawson Smith and Kyle Hedblom tallied two goals.
DePauw travels to Trine University on Saturday, March 11, to take on the Thunder at noon EST.
