DePauw Falls to UChicago in Home Opener

Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw women's lacrosse team fell to the 17th-ranked University Chicago Maroons 24-3 in its home opener, dropping to 1-1 for the season, while the Maroons recorded its first win of the season.
 
A goal by Chicago's Camille Kuwana with 13:09 left in the first period gave the Maroons an early 1-0 lead. Two minutes later, DePauw's Bridget Driscoll answered with back-to-back goals, with her second goal assisted by Emily Napier. Katie Large erased the Tigers' lead over the Maroons soon after to tie the game up at two.
 
The Maroons took control of the first period following a man-up goal by Evilina Swigart. Although the Tigers' Bria Randolph got DePauw back within one following a free position shot, Chicago extended its lead by four with a flurry of goals to close the period.
 
Skylar Lienhardt led the Maroons with five goals, while teammates Swigart and Lulu Hardy scored three each, and Jane Chen assisted on four.
 
Lydia Hollis tallied 15 saves for the day, and Rachel Keefe picked up the win in goal for Chicago after saving two shots. The Maroons' Emily Fagen was in the net in the fourth period and tallied one save for the day.
 
Chicago held a 46-8 advantage in shots, with DePauw committing 28 turnovers to the Maroons' eight. The Maroons held an 18-11 draw control edge as Large, Alexis Veldhuis, and Zoe Torok had three, while DePauw's Driscoll totaled five. Chicago led in ground balls, 24-9.
 
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, March 4, and host Transylvania at 1 p.m. EST in Greencastle, Ind., at Reavis Stadium.
