Kalamazoo, Mich.: DePauw men's lacrosse recorded its first win of the 2023 season after beating the Kalamazoo College Hornets 8-4 on the road.
Henry White scored the first goal of the season with 10:51 left in the opening quarter. The Tigers'
Collin Kilpatrick scored DePauw's second goal after collecting a quick pass from
Jack Flynn. Three minutes after Kilpatrick's goal,
Beckett Tasker earned the first of four goals for the night to put the Tigers up 3-0 with 5:58 left in the first quarter.
Vincent Tremonti of Kalamazoo got the Hornets on the board with 4:06 left in the first quarter; however, Kalamazoo's efforts were stifled after Tasker found the back of the Hornets' net two more times just before the start of the second quarter.
Kalamazoo opened the second quarter with a man-up goal just with 13.42 left in the half. The Tigers'
Connor Gibson scored DePauw's lone goal of the quarter after he settled a pass from White to put the Tigers up 6-2 at the half.
Both teams were scoreless in the third quarter; however, with 13:23 left in the fourth quarter,
Eli Federman extended the Tigers' lead to 7-2. Kalamazoo answered with its own goal by Jake Asnis with just over 11 minutes to go in regulation. A minute later, the Hornets were within three after Ronin Honda found Logan Gillis to score while a man up.
The Tigers shut the Hornet's late scoring surge in the final ten minutes of play, with Tasker tallying his fourth goal with only 18 seconds left in the game, giving DePauw an 8-4 victory over Kalamazoo.
Tasker led the Tigers with four goals, while Kilpatrick, Federman, Gibson, and White each had one goal.
DePauw outshot Kalamazoo, 37-28, and held a 41-38 edge in ground balls. The Tigers dominated the faceoffs, winning 12 of the 15, with
Matthew Roman winning 11-of-14 for DePauw and Kalamazoo's Max Saxton winning 2 -out of-7. In goal,
Anthony Reinhardt totaled nine saves for DePauw, and Dylan Wickey had 7 for Kalamazoo.
DePauw moves to 1-0 and returns to Greencastle, Ind., on Sunday, February 26, with a Noon game against Ohio Northern University.
