Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw women's tennis team fell to No. 10 Indiana Wesleyan University 8-1, dropping to 1-3 overall, while the Wildcats improved to 17-2 for the 2022-23 season.

No. 10 Indiana Wesleyan jumped to an early 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles play. On court one, the Wildcats' Melanie Dveksler and Breann Barger defeated
Kiley Shaw and
Sonal Matta 8-2. Over on court three, Maria Way and Regan Mellinger of Indiana Wesleyan beat
Franny Werner and
Valerie Doherty 8-4. The Wildcats' Emily Connoly and Sofia Loren Munoz battled back and forth with
Ellen Gardner and
Kat Wilder on court two. They ultimately got the edge over the Tigers, beating them 8-7 (7-2).

In singles play, Indiana Wesleyan continued to pull ahead; on court one, Sofia Loren Munoz defeated Gardner 6-2, 6-2, and Regan Mellinger beat Werner 6-4, 6-3 on court six. The Wildcats' Ellie Snider beat Doherty 6-1, 6-2 on court four, and Melanie Dveksler defeated Matta 6-2, 6-3 on court two.

DePauw's Shaw traded sets with Emily Connolly but ultimately lost to Connolly 1-6, 6-0, 6-2; however, on court three, Wilder recorded the Tigers' lone victory with a 7-5, 6-4 win over the Wildcat's Breann Barger.Â

The Tigers travel to Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday, February 25, to face Gustavus Adolphus College at 8:30 a.m. EST, followed by a 1 p.m. match with Washington and Lee University.
