Tigers Drop Two, Falling 8-1 to Both Gustavus and Washington & Lee

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Terre Haute, Ind.- The DePauw women's tennis team dropped to 1-5 for the season after falling to Gustavus Adolphus College and Washington & Lee University 8-1. The Gusties improved to 3-3 overall, while the Generals moved to 5-3 for the season.
 
Gustavus took an early 2-1 lead in doubles after Renata Hernandez, and Alli Laux beat Franny Werner and Valerie Doherty 8-2 on court three. The Gusties' Molly Austin and Allison Szalay defeated Ellen Gardner and Kat Wilder 8-3 on court two. On court one, Kiley Shaw and Sonal Matta beat Yuki Oda and Halle Rosentreter 8-2 for the Tiger's lone win of the morning.
 
With a 2-1 lead over the DePauw, Gustavus put away the match sweeping the singles matches. On court five, Molly Austin beat Shaw 6-0, 6-1, and Paula Yakimova defeated Werner 6-4, 6-1 on court six. The Gusties' Halle Rosentreter beat Doherty 6-4, 6-1 on court four, while on court two, Matta fell to Allison Szalay 6-0, 6-4. Putting the game away on court three, Allie Laux defeated Kat Wilder 7-5, 6-1, followed by Yuki Oda beating Gardner 6-4, 6-3.
 
The Tigers continued its weekend play the same afternoon when it took on Washington & Lee. 
 
In match two against the Generals, DePauw once again recorded a win in doubles play. Alex Preston and Doherty beat Grace Lorenz and Kaitliyn Chalker 8-5 on court three. On court one, the Tigers' Shaw and Matta fell to Lauren Long and Margaret Carlton 8-2, while Washington & Lee University's Izzy Koziol and Rino Iijimad defeated Wilder and Gardner 8-4.
 
In singles, the Generals dominated the Tigers. On court one, Gardner fell to Lauren Long 6-0, 6-0, followed by Gabi Moss of Washington and Lee beating Wilder at 6-0, 6-1 on court two. Doherty dropped her match to Izzy Koziol 6-0, 6-1. On court four, Shaw fell to Riho Iijima 6-0, 6-2, and Bella DeNardo fell 6-1, 6-0 to Jordan Kach. Rounding out the Tigers' singles losses was Werner, who was defeated by the Generals' Kaitlyn Chalker, who beat Werner 6-2 and ultimately retired.
 
The Tigers return to the Brickway Tennis and Pickleball Club in Terre Haute, Ind., on Sunday, February 26, to face Denison University at 8:30 a.m. EST and WashU at noon EST.
