Greencastle, Ind.- In its first home matchup of the spring season, DePauw women's tennis beat the Panthers of Principia College 8-1 at home.

In doubles play,
Valerie Doherty and
Franny Werner recorded the Tigers' first evening win on court three, beating Principia's Ruth Hummell and Kelsie Huss 8-2.

On court one,
Kiley Shaw and
Sonal Matta defeated the Panthers' Bissola Lassissi and Veronica Volkart 8-5. DePauw would take a commanding 3-0 lead after
Ellen Gardner and
Kat Wilder beat Principia's Saray Cisneros and Kimbeley Peterson 8-3 on court two.

Up 3-0, the Tigers extended its lead to four early when Shaw defeated the Panthers' Hummel 6-1, 6-0 on court six. Doherty's 6-2, 6-0 victory on court four over Volkart clinched the victory for DePauw.

Matta tacked on the Tiger's sixth victory on court two after she beat Cisneros 6-1, 6-2. On court five, Werner battled back from behind to defeat Principia's Peterson 4-6, 7-6 (7-1), 1-0 (10-6). Gardner also clawed her way back into her match, defeating Lassissi on court one 5-7, 7-6 (7-1), 1-0 (11-9).

The Panthers' Huss earned the team's lone victory over Wilder on court three. Huss beat Wilder 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (13-11), ultimately winning in a nail-biting tiebreaker.

The Tigers travel to the University of Chicago Sunday, February 12, to compete against the Maroons at 10 am CST.
