Gallatin, Tenn. - Seventh-ranked Wartburg shot 52.4 percent from the floor and knocked in 16 3-pointers and handed DePauw an 89-40 defeat in the final day of the Music City Classic. The Tigers dropped to 6-4 as their five-game win streak came to an end. The Knights improved to 10-1.
Wartburg hit a pair of treys in the opening four minutes and never trailed in the win. The Knights took a 21-13 lead into the second quarter and finished the half with a pair of 3-pointers in the final 30 seconds for a 45-21 halftime lead.
The Knights sealed the victory in the third as they shot just under 53 percent and connected on 5-of-8 from beyond the arc while holding the Tigers to just 17.6 percent from the floor to outscore DePauw, 23-6, for a 68-27 lead.
Ainsley Boras led DePauw with 14 points, while
Diana Burgher grabbed eight rebounds.Â
Jadeon Murphy paced Wartburg with 17 points followed by Sara Faber with 16, Lauren Golinghorst with 15 and Grace Hennessy with 14. Faber led with seven rebounds.
DePauw shot 23.6 percent from the floor including 17.4 percent from 3-point range, while the Knights shot 45.7 percent from long range as part of their 52.4 percent overall mark.
Wartburg outrebounded DePauw, 45-43, and committed 13 turnovers to DePauw's 18.
The Tigers return to action on Friday, Dec. 29, when they host the Amy Hasbrook Invitational. DePauw faces Lakeland at 2 p.m., while Lake Forest and Franklin square off at 4 p.m. Saturday's third-place and championship games are scheduled for 2 and 4 p.m., respectively.
