St. Louis, Mo. - DePauw moved to 4-3 on the season with its third straight win after topping Hanover, 76-68, in WashU's McWilliams Classic. Hanover dropped to 2-4.
After a tight first period, DePauw put together an 11-2 run early in the second to take a 29-19 lead. The Tigers led by 13 at the half after
Lydia Stullken's basket with seven seconds left.
The Panthers started chipping away at the Tigers' lead in the third and took a 46-45 lead after a 9-0 run. DePauw's
Ava Hassel hit a basket and two free throws in the final 36 seconds of the third to give the Tigers a 52-48 edge heading into the fourth.
DePauw gradually pushed the lead back to double digits on a couple of occasions with the last coming at 70-60 on
Lily Huntzinger's 3-pointer with 3:15 left. The Panthers scored the next five, but the Tigers put the game away by scoring the next six.
Hassel led DePauw with 16 points with Huntzinger and
Lyla Barr following with career highs of 12 each.
Ainsley Boras and Stullken each grabbed nine rebounds. Hassel and Boras were both named to the all-classic team.
Grace Bezold paced Hanover with 31 points and Katherine Benter added 10. Bezold hauled down nine rebounds.Â
DePauw shot 39.1 percent from the field to Hanover's 38.0 and the Tigers outscored the Panthers from the line, 21-8. The Tigers held a 49-36 rebounding edge.Â
The Tigers open North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday, Dec. 9, with a 1 p.m. game at Kenyon.
