Gambier, Ohio - DePauw held an eight-point lead at Kenyon with just over one minute left, but the host Owls finished with a 12-2 run capped by Anthony Testa's game-winning 3-pointer with 0.6 seconds left. The Tigers dropped to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while Kenyon moved to 1-7 overall and 1-0 in the NCAC.
Sam Jacobs' bucket with 1:20 left gave DePauw a 69-61 lead. Nick Nelson countered with a jumper, but missed the free throw to complete the three-point play and Kenyon was awarded the ball after the miss. Gefen Bar-Cohen hit a pair of free throws with 41 seconds left to make if 69-65.
After the Tigers failed to convert the front end of the one-and-one, Bar-Cohen nailed a 3-pointer with 27 seconds remaining to close the deficit to 69-68.
Jacobs made a couple of free throws with 24 seconds left before Nelson's layup with 17 seconds remaining cut the Tigers' lead to 71-70. DePauw again missed the front end of the one-and-one and Kenyon rebounded.
Nelson's driving layup was off the mark but Dylan Fuerst grabbed the rebound under the basket and got the ball to Testa in the corner in front of the Kenyon bench. Testa bobbled the ball before gaining control and firing the game-winner from deep in the corner. DePauw's long pass, following a timeout, was deflected preserving the win for the hosts.Â
DePauw held a 39-32 halftime lead and stretched it to 12 at 50-38 with 13:54 left in the contest. Kenyon closed to within four at 62-58 before the Tigers scored five straight setting up the final minute of play.
Jacobs led DePauw with 17 points, while
Grant Niego followed with 14 and
Camden Brown 12.
Reph Stevenson had a team-high eight rebounds and Niego dished out three assists.
Caleb Washington totaled three steals.
Nelson and Connor Moss paced Kenyon with 15 points apiece with Fuerst adding 14 and Bar-Cohen 13 along with 10 rebounds.Â
Each team shot 48.2 percent from the field with DePauw hitting 8-of-21 3-pointers and the Owls making 5-of-19 from beyond the arc. The Tigers made just 9-of-18 free throws to Kenyon's 14-of-22. DePauw held a 35-33 rebounding edge.Â
The Tigers host Wittenberg on Wednesday, Dec. 6, in a 7 p.m. NCAC game.
