Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw shot a season-high 51.4 percent from the field and knocked in a season-best nine 3-pointers on the way to a 103-70 win over visiting Illinois Tech. The Tigers improved to 7-4 with their fourth straight win, while the Scarlet Hawks dropped to 3-7.
The Tigers never trailed in the win and used a 23-4 first-half run to turn a 3-point lead into a 39-17 advantage. DePauw took a 59-28 lead into the halftime intermission.
DePauw scored the first five points of the second half to take its largest lead at 64-28 and Illinois Tech got no closer than 23 the rest of the way.
Caleb Washington recorded his first collegiate double-double with 15 points and a career-high 11 rebounds, while
Sam Jacobs followed with 13 points.
Reph Stevenson and
Brady Kunka each scored 11 and
Grant Gohmann added 10.
Joe Smith dished out a career-high five assists in just under 10 minutes.
DeAndre Vortes led Illinois Tech with 18 points with Garrison Carter chipping in 10. Andrew Veon led the way with six rebounds and Tomas Teklegergis handed out three assists.
In addition to the 51.4 percent shooting form the field, the Tigers nailed 9-of-20 3-pointers, while Illinois Tech shot 38.8 percent from the floor. DePauw held a 52-24 rebounding edge for a 24-7 advantage in second-chance points. The Tigers also outscored the Scarlet Hawks in the paint, 50-24. The 103 points by the Tigers were the most since they totaled 148 against Greenville on Jan. 16, 2021.
DePauw returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 21, when it travels to Transylvania for the Don Lane Classic. The Tigers face the host Pioneers in a 2 p.m. contest.Â
