Greencastle, Ind. - A late 9-0 Anderson run extended the Raven's five-point lead to 14 on the way to a 79-63 win over DePauw in the season opener for both teams.
DePauw built a 28-22 lead with just over six minutes left in the first half, but Anderson scored 11 straight at the beginning of a 20-5 run and took a 42-35 halftime lead.
The Tigers opened the second half with five straight points as
Reph Stevenson hit a jumper and then scored on a dunk off a feed from
Ronald Johnson. Stevenson completed the three-point play with a free throw to close the gap to 42-40.
Anderson's first double-digit lead of the contest came at 51-41 and DePauw eventually closed the gap to 64-59 after Johnson and
Sam Jacobs each hit two free throws with just over seven minutes left.
The teams traded misses before Elijah Mattingly scored on a layup and Gavin Dowling hit a 3-pointer after a Tigers' turnover. Another DePauw turnover led to Tate Ivanyo's fast break layup to push the lead to 73-59 with 4:37 remaining.
Jacobs trimmed the lead to 12 on a dunk after a
Brady Kunka steal, but the Ravens scored six straight as the Tigers came up empty on four straight offensive possessions.
Jacobs led DePauw with 15 points and Stevenson followed with 12 and Kunka 11. Ivanyo led five Anderson double-figure scorers with 17 points followed by Mattingly with 16. Bryson Huckeby and Cam Smith each scored 12 and Jordan Gadis finished with 10.
Anderson held a narrow 39-38 edge on the boards as Mattingly had 11 and Kunka grabbed six for the Tigers. Jacobs led DePauw with four assists, while Smith paced the Ravens with six assists.
Anderson shot 50.8 percent from the floor to DePauw's 35.4 percent and the Ravens outscored the Tigers in the paint, 54-26.
DePauw travels to Rose-Hulman on Friday, Nov. 10, for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
