Greencastle, Ind. - Visiting Millikin, ranked 19th in the coaches' preseason poll and 24th by D3hoops.com, shot 55.9 percent from the floor and held DePauw to 24.6 percent on the way to an 86-53 win over the Tigers in the DePauw Invitational championship game. DePauw dropped to 1-2, while Millikin improved to 4-0.
The Big Blue got out to a 9-2 lead and held a 22-10 advantage after the first period. DePauw closed to within six at 28-22, but Millikin closed the first half with a 13-4 run to take a 41-26 lead at the intermission.
Millikin scored 11 straight during a stretch of the third to extend a 17-point advantage to 28 and put the game away.
Tori Allen scored 14 and
Riley Mont followed with 11 in the loss and each was named to the all-tournament team.
Lydia Stullken grabbed a team-high eight rebounds
Tournament MVP Elyce Knudsen paced DePauw with 34 points, while all-tournament choice Bailey Coffman followed with 17 and Sophie Darden chipped in a double-double of 14 points, 12 rebounds and four assists.
Millikin attempted two fewer field goals than the Tigers, but made 18 more as they shot at least 50 percent in all four periods. The Tigers held a narrow 39-37 rebounding edge and hauled down 21 on the offensive glass.Â
Calvin defeated Otterbein in the third-place game by a 68-53 score and the Knights' Emma Witte earned all-tournament honors.
DePauw returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 25 when it faces WashU in the Midwest Challenge at Rose-Hulman. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
