Memphis, Tenn. - DePauw scored 13 straight early in the second half and held on for a 65-58 win at Rhodes in the Rhodes Classic. The Tigers moved to 1-2, while the Lynx dropped to 0-3.
DePauw used a 9-0 run with three-pointers from
Caleb Washington,
Brady Kunka and
Sam Jacobs to take a 14-8 lead. The Lynx came back to lead by as many as nine before heading to the intermission with a 35-28 lead.
Rhodes still led by seven at 37-30 after the teams exchanged baskets to open the second half. Jacobs and
Camden Brown each hit buckets before Jacobs added two free throws to closed the gap to 37-36 with 16:38 remaining.
Grant Niego's layup gave DePauw the lead for good before
Grant Gohmann added a basket and Brown a trey to cap the 13-0 run and give the Tigers a 43-37 lead. The Tigers stretched the advantage to as many as nine on a couple of occasions and were able to hold off the Rhodes comeback.
Niego paced DePauw with 18 points, while Jacobs added 11 and Brown grabbed nine rebounds. Phil Dotson led Rhodes with 17 points and five assists with Zavien Williams totaling 14. Williams and Cass Ramberg each had six boards.
The Tigers shot 44.9 percent to the Lynx's 33.3 and DePauw held a 40-33 rebounding edge.Â
DePauw faces Millsaps tomorrow at 1 p.m. CST to wrap up play at Rhodes.
