Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Tigers Record Sixth Shutout in 4-0 Victory Over Gators

Meadville, Pa.- Recording its sixth shutout and eighth win in a row, the DePauw field hockey team remains undefeated in North Coast Athletic Conference play after defeating Allegheny College 4-0. The Tigers improve to 9-3 for the season and are 6-0 in conference play, while the Gators drop to 4-8 overall and 2-1 in NCAC play.

From the first whistle, DePauw forced Allegheny to play on the defensive. The Tigers early pressure led to its first goal in the seventh minute when Hailey Nowak located Amy Apfelbaum in front of the Gators' cage to put DePauw up 1-0.

Ella Mickey scored the Tigers' second goal of the afternoon and her first collegiate goal in the 28th minute to put DePauw up 2-0 heading into halftime.

DePauw would tack on two more goals in the third period, extending the Tigers' lead to four. In the 38th minute, Lilly Harris snuck a pass to Nowak for goal number three, and less than six minutes later, Apfelbaum found Tiala Ortega for the Tigers' fourth goal of the day.

DePauw finished the afternoon holding an edge in both shots and penalty corners. The Tigers outshot the Gators 18-2, with 13 shots on goal, and earned eight penalty corners while giving up just one on its defensive end.

Scarlett Oaks and Bella Lauber shared time in the cage for the Tigers, with Oaks facing just two shots and recording one save for the day. Allegheny's Meredythe Baird spent the entire game in the cage for the Gators, facing 18 shots, and tallied nine saves for the afternoon.

The Tigers return to Greencastle, Indiana, on Thursday, October 12, to host the Denison Big Red at 7 p.m. at Reavis Stadium.

I felt comfortable the moment I visited campus-it felt like home. It is a place where I can receive a great education and continue my field hockey career.

I chose DePauw because it allows me to balance academics and athletics while being in an environment that will also challenge me with both.
