Washington, Pa.- The DePauw field hockey team stretched its win streak to seven after stunning hosts Washington and Jefferson 5-1. The Tigers improve to 8-3 overall and remain undefeated in NCAC play with a 5-0 record. The Presidents drop to 4-6 for the season and 2-4 in conference play.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Tigers found themselves playing from behind in the 18th minute after Washington and Jefferson's Lily Giering dribbled through DePauw's defense and slipped a shot past the Tigers' goalkeeper
Bella Lauber.

DePauw would find the back of the President's cage in the 29th minute when
Tiala Ortega tipped the ball to
Maggie Volpe, who then found
Amy Apfelbaum for goal number one.

The Tigers' second goal came in the 42nd minute when Apfelbaum took possession of a loose ball and knocked the ball into the right corner of the President's cage.

DePauw dominated in the final quarter of play, earning four penalty corners and putting up nine shots while giving up nothing on its defensive end. The game's final three goals spanned the last six minutes of regulation. Apfelbaum finished the morning with a hat trick following a putback after a rebounded shot.
Ashley Appleby scored the final two goals of the day. The first goal was an unassisted rocket to the back of Washington and Jefferson's cage, while
Ella Mickey assisted the second to put the Tigers up 5-1 with just 43 seconds left in the game.

The Tigers wrapped the morning, outshooting its opponents 26 to 5, and had an edge over the Presidents in penalty corners, earning 15, while giving up just one in the first quarter on its defensive end.
In the cage for DePauw, Lauber and
Scarlett Oaks split the two halves, with Lauber tallying three saves. Washington and Jefferson's Anastasia Godat spent all 60 minutes in the cage for the Presidents, recording 13 saves for the day.

DePauw travels to Meadville, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, October 8, to face Allegheny College. The Tigers and Gators are set to play at 12 p.m.
