Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Tigers’ Late Surge Leads to 3-3 Tie with the Little Giants

Crawfordsville, Ind.- In a nail-biter of a match, the DePauw men's soccer team came from a 3-1 deficit to tie the Wabash Little Giants 3-3 in its second North Coast Athletic Conference game. The Tigers move to 4-4-2 overall and 0-1-1 in NCAC play, while the Little Giants move to 4-2-4 and 0-0-1 in conference matchups.

DePauw struck first in the 14th minute when AJ Hockstok found Joey Vehovsky, who chipped it over the defense for the Tigers' first goal. Two minutes later, Wabash's Jackson Grabill slipped a through ball to Evan Miller to knot the game up at one.

The Little Giants would take the lead in the 29th minute when Wabash's Bryce Kinnaman got to the center, squared up, and found the back of the Tigers net. Wabash's final goal came in the 59th minute when Evan Miller found the Little Giants' Jose Escalante for goal number three.

Down 3-1 with just over 30 minutes left in the match, DePauw continued to push the pace of play into its attacking third. The Tigers' persistence paid off in the 74th minute off a corner kick, taken by Quinn Flaspohler, found the head of a charging Alec McCarty to cut the lead to one. With the momentum suddenly shifted to DePauw, four minutes later, the Tigers tied the match at three following a shot by Ethan Webster, who managed to settle a deflected shot and knock it into the back of the Little Giants net.

The two teams scrambled to get the tie-breaking goal as time wound down but ultimately finished in a draw. Wabash finished the afternoon holding an edge in shots, outshooting DePauw 15-10.

Sam Ortner kept the Tigers in the game on the defensive end, recording seven saves for the afternoon, while the Little Giants' Fernando Ramos tallied just two saves.

DePauw returns to Greencastle, Ind., on Saturday, October 7, at 4 p.m. against North Park University.

The combination of elite academics and competitive athletics was attractive to me. The campus feel and look was also an appealing aspect of the school.
