Lexington, Ky.- The DePauw field hockey team outlasted Transylvania and beat the Pioneers, 2-1, in overtime. The Tigers improved to 12-6 and finished 8-2 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, while the Pioneers dropped to 5-14 overall and 1-9 in conference play.
After two scoreless periods, the Tigers' Haley Nowak found the back of the Pioneers cage in the 33rd minute to put DePauw up 1-0. Transylvania would eventually answer in the 55th minute of play when the Pioneers' Catherine Harney gathered a pass from Caroline Seaward to knot the game up at one.
With neither team able to win the game during regulation, each team looked to put in the golden goal in overtime. In the 67th minute of play, DePauw's Ella Mickey put the game away with an unassisted goal.
The Tigers finished the afternoon outshooting the Pioneers 18-2 and had a 14-1 edge over Transylvania in penalty corners. In the cage for DePauw, Bella Lauber and Scarlett Oaks split time, with Lauber tallying one save for the afternoon. For the Pioneers, Libby Bringard spent all 66 minutes in the cage, tallying nine saves.
The Tigers, seeded third in the NCAC Tournament, travel to Granville, Ohio, on Wednesday, November 1, to face second-seed Denison at 5 p.m.
