Springfield, Ohio - After dropping the opening set at Wittenberg, DePauw swept the last three for a 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-19) North Coast Athletic Conference win. The Tigers improved to 11-10 overall and 4-0 in the NCAC, while Wittenberg slipped to 7-13 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
Wittenberg took the first set after a back-and-forth battle that included 12 ties and eight lead changes. The second set included nine ties and four lead changes before the Tigers closed the set by winning three of the final four points. DePauw finished the third set on an 8-3 run and never trailed in the fourth set to wrap up the victory.
Wittenberg held a 51-44 edge in kills, but DePauw outhit the hosts, .239-.148. The Tigers hit .303 in the third set and .412 in the fourth.
Katie Gansle led DePauw with 12 kills and
Kendall Herrick finished with 20 assists. Tyler Linkhart paced Wittenberg with 13 kills and Mack Ricketts totaled 40 assists.
DePauw led in service aces, 13-9, as Herrick and
Grace Myers each had three. Wittenberg's Ava Golem finished with four.
Lauren Ridgway paced the Tigers with five blocks and Myers led with 26 digs. Kendall Black led Wittenberg with two blocks and Ally White had 20 digs.
The win was the Tigers' first over Wittenberg in 13 NCAC regular season matches and just the second victory at Wittenberg with the other coming in the 2019 NCAC Tournament semifinals.
DePauw returns to NCAC action on Saturday, Oct. 21, with a 1 p.m. match at Oberlin.
