St. Louis, Mo. - DePauw wrapped up its weekend play at the WashU Invitational with a pair of losses including a 3-1 (21-25, 25-14, 25-11, 25-22) defeat to second-ranked Wis.-Oshkosh and a 3-2 (21-25, 20-25, 25-14, 25-22, 16-14) loss to Simpson. The Tigers moved to 10-10 on the season.
In the opening match against the second-ranked Titans (25-0), the Tigers scored six of the final eight points and won the opening set which marked just the 15th time this season that a Wis.-Oshkosh opponent won a set. The Titans, however, rallied to win the final three sets and the match.
The Titans outhit DePauw, .347-.156 and held a 58-36 edge in kills.
Olivia Karwin, who earned a spot on the all-tournament team, paced DePauw with seven kills and 19 assists, while Riley Kindt and Sami Perlberg each had 16 kills for Wis.-Oshkosh with Kalli Mau leading with 28 assists.
Karwin had three of DePauw's nine service aces, while
Katie Gansle and
Grace Myers had two each. Kindt has two of Oshkosh's six aces.
Riley Kamer and Myers paced DePauw with nine digs with
Lauren Ridgway,
Ashley Haas and Karwin had three blocks apiece. Abby Fregien had a match-high 18 digs for the Titans, while Riley Dahlquist finished with three blocks.
Against Simpson (7-17), The Tigers won the first two sets before the Storm came back to win the third. DePauw looked to be on the way to winning the match in the fourth set as it held an 18-9 lead, but Simpson rallied to win 16 of the final 20 points to force the fifth set.
In the fifth set, the Tigers fought off three match points to even the score at 14-14 before the Storm won the final two to capture the match.
Simpson outhit DePauw, .225-.162 and held a 51-46 advantage in kills. Gansle led DePauw with 13 kills and Karwin had 22 assists. Emily Williams paced the Storm with 20 kills and Morgan DenBeste had 42 assists.
DePauw led in service aces, 16-14, with Gansle and Myers totaling four each. Peyton Mitchell and Lauren Roman each had four for the Storm.
Myers led DePauw with 17 digs and Haas had three blocks. Williams finished with 14 digs for Simpson and Roman totaled six blocks.
DePauw takes a 3-0 North Coast Athletic Conference into Thursday's 7 p.m. match at Wittenberg.
