Springfield, Ohio - DePauw battled back from a 1-0 deficit with three goals in the third period and held on for a 3-2 North Coast Athletic Conference victory at Wittenberg. The Tigers improved to 10-4 overall and 7-1 in NCAC play, while Wittenberg dropped to 8-6 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
Wittenberg's Lucy Ripepi gave the hosts a 1-0 lead with 33 seconds left in the first on an assist from Lauren Neutzling. The score stayed that way until the 34:30 mark when
Maggie Volpe scored on
Lilly Harris' assist.
Harris then assisted
Tiala Ortega at 40:34 to give DePauw the lead before Volpe made it 3-1 with Ortega's assist.
While DePauw outshot Wittenberg, 9-0, in the third, Wittenberg turned the tables in the fourth with an 8-1 edge. Meike Kwaaitaal cut the DePauw lead to 3-2 with 3:17 left on an assist from Emmy Kuijten, but the Tigers were able to hold off Wittenberg.
Wittenberg held a 14-11 edge in shots and a 10-6 advantage in shots on goal. The hosts also held a 10-4 edge in penalty corners.
Bella Lauber had five saves in goal for DePauw, while
Scarlett Oaks had three. Caitlin Archdeacon finished with three saves for Wittenberg with Izzy Thompson playing the final period without facing a shot on goal.
DePauw returns to NCAC action on Saturday, Oct. 21, when it hosts Ohio Wesleyan at Noon.
