Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Tigers Finish in a 1-1 Draw with the Big Red

Greencastle, Ind.-  Keeping its unbeaten at-home streak alive, the DePauw women's soccer team finished in a 1-1 draw with Denison University after finishing the game 14 minutes early due to lightning. The Tigers moved to 8-2-3 overall and 1-0-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, while the Big Red moved to 4-2-5 for the season and 1-01 in conference play.

In the first half, the Tigers had an edge over the Big Red in both shots and corner kick attempts, outshooting its opponents 4-2 and earning three corners while giving up just one in the first half. Despite having the looks on goal, in the 45th minute, Denison's Kate Dalimonte found the back of DePauw's net off a soaring free kick that just missed the gloves of Aubree Empie.

Down 1-0 at the start of the half, the Tigers immediately looked to attack Big Red's defense. DePauw's pressure on Denison's backline finally paid off in the 56th minute when Annalise Grammel worked her way down the right side of the field and skipped a pass right to the feet of Sydney Calisto for the equalizer.

With momentum suddenly shifted in favor of the Tigers, DePauw tallied four shots to Big Red's two before play was halted and ultimately suspended due to lightning.

The Tigers outshot the Big Red 10-7 for the evening but were even with Denison in corner kick attempts by the time the match wrapped. Empie was in goal for DePauw and tallied three saves for the night, while Molly Noga finished with four saves for the Big Red.

The Tigers are back on the road on Saturday, October 14, to face the Yeowomen of Oberlin College at 12 p.m.

I chose DePauw because the campus was beautiful and had the perfect combination of athletics and academics.

I chose DePauw for a number of different reasons. First, the University takes academics very seriously and wants their students to excel. I am looking to study in the field of chemistry and believe that DePauw's math and science programs are recognized for their high quality education. I also love the liberal arts style for a school, where I can explore other opportunities and expand my areas of interest. I was recruited by several Division I soccer programs, but decided to play at DePauw, because I really liked the coach and the team, and DePauw will provide me the opportunity to play soccer but also will allow me to enjoy the full college experience.
