DePauw Moves to 2-0 in NCAC Play with Win over Terriers

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw scored 12 straight early in the fourth to extend a 10-point lead to 22 and pulled away for a 69-45 North Coast Athletic Conference win over the Terriers, The Tigers moved to 7-6 overall and 2-0 in the NCAC, while Hiram dropped to 6-6 overall and 0-1 in the league.

The Tigers closed the opening period on a 13-2 run to take a 23-8 lead over the Terriers, but Hiram closed the gap to three after outscoring the Tigers, 20-8, in the second period to make the halftime score, 31-28.

Hiram was still within four at 34-30 after Brooke Hickman's bucket, but Mya Shannon, Moira McGinley and Lydia Stullken each scored to push the lead to 40-30 with 5:31 left. After Hiram scored the next four, the Tigers scored six straight to make it 46-34.

The Terriers trailed 49-39 after three periods and were still down by 10 in the opening two minutes of the fourth before Shannon converted a three-point play and and a layup with Lyla Barr scoring on a break to push the lead to 58-41 at the 6:48 mark. Riley Mont's 3-pointer and Diana Burgher's bucket capped the 12-0 run and sealed the win.

Shannon led all scorers with 22 points and led the Tigers with nine rebounds, while Boras added 12 points and McGinley 11. Burgher and Maura Fitzgerald each finished with three assists and Boras with three steals.

Anastasia Lawler paced Hiram with 14 points, while Maddie Rakestraw and Lizzy Scharer each scored 10. Taylor Valaitis and Kelsie Gaiser each grabbed six rebounds and Rakestraw had four assists.

DePauw shot 40.8 percent from the floor to Hiram's 29.4 percent and the Tigers held a 46-34 edge on the boards while outscoring the Terriers in the paint, 40-14.

The Tigers travel to Wittenberg on Saturday, Jan. 7, for a 2 p.m. NCAC contest.
