Springfield, Ohio - Wittenberg outscored DePauw, 26-18, in the fourth quarter and pulled away from the Tigers for a 64-53 North Coast Athletic Conference victory. DePauw dropped to 7-7 overall and 2-1 in the NCAC, while Wittenberg moved to 10-3 Â overall and 2-0 in the conference.
Wittenberg jumped out to an 11-0 lead, but DePauw climbed back with a 10-0 run to close the gap to 11-10 with 8:16 left in the second period. The Tigers took their first lead of the contest at 17-14 on
Moira McGinley's three with 6:05 left in the half and the teams went to the halftime intermission tied, 21-21.
Midway through the third
Mya Shannon converted a three-point play and
Riley Mont followed with a trey to give the Tigers a 31-26 lead. Wittenberg countered with threes on back-to-back possessions to regain the lead and the host Tigers took a 38-35 advantage into the final period.
Shannon's free throw in the opening minute of the fourth brought the Tigers back to within two, but Wittenberg went on an 18-6 run to take its biggest lead of the contest at 56-42.Â
Mont led DePauw with a career-high 17 points, while Shannon followed with 16 and McGinley 10.
Ainsley Boras grabbed 10 rebounds in the loss.
Evie Wolshire paced Wittenberg with 18 points followed by Taryn Cash with 16 and Kelsey Ragan with 10. Cash snagged eight rebounds.
DePauw shot 34.6 percent from the floor to Wittenberg's 38.6 percent and the hosts knocked in 8-of-20 3-pointers to DePauw's 2-of-13. DePauw held a 32-30 rebounding edge, but committed 20 turnovers to Wittenberg's 12.
The loss snapped DePauw's 39-game NCAC regular season win streak with the Tigers' last loss coming on Jan.23, 2019, when they also lost at Wittenberg.
DePauw travels to Denison on Wednesday, Jan. 11, for a 6 p.m. game.
