DePauw’s Home Opener Ends in a 2-2 Draw with the Ravens

Story Links

Greencastle, Ind.-  In its home opener, the DePauw men's soccer team finished in a 2-2 tie with the Anderson University Ravens.

Alec McCarty's header off a corner kick by Quinn Flaspohler in the sixth minute gave DePauw an early 1-0 lead.

The Tigers would extend its lead to two in the 23rd minute after Ben Weidner's efforts led to an unassisted goal.

Anderson, however, cut DePauw's lead in half after Caleb Gonser collected a rebound and chipped it into the net, putting the Ravens on the board.

In the second half, with 15 minutes left in regulation, Anderson evened the score at two apiece off a free kick by Drew Vaughn.

Despite the outcome, the Tigers outshot the Ravens 10-6 and held a 7-2 advantage in corners.

DePauw moves to 1-0-1 for the season and travels to Franklin College on Wednesday, September 7. The Tigers face the Grizzlies at 8 pm, after the women's soccer match at 6 pm.

I chose DePauw for the mix of strong academics, including the Management Fellows Program, and the opportunity to play the two sports I love and have played most of my life. I also really like the campus and the people I have met along the way.
