Franklin, Ind.- The DePauw men's soccer team held off the Franklin Grizzlies in a 2-0 road victory and improved to 2-0-1 for the season.
Â
For most of the first half, both teams battled for position and advancement past the other back line.
Â
In the 32nd minute of play,
Ben Weidner broke down Franklin's defensive line, beating his last defender and crossing the ball just in front of the goal to find
Ethan Webster putting DePauw up 1-0.
Â
The Tigers' defense stifled the Grizzlies' attempts throughout the second half and found multiple opportunities to push the game's pace in favor of DePauw.
Â
DePauw scored its second goal of the evening with just ten minutes left in regulation after Sam
Thiel broke free of his defender, sprinted down the sideline, and slipped a pass back to
Weidner, who drilled the ball into the back of the net.
Â
Following this 2-0 win, the Tigers head back to Reavis Stadium on Friday, September 9, and host the University of Chicago at 7 pm.
