Terre Haute, Ind. - After dropping the opening set, DePauw battled back to even its match at Rose-Hulman, but the Fightin' Engineers rallied for a third-set win and took the fourth for a 3-1 (25-16, 23-25, 30-28, 25-20) match victory. DePauw moved to 7-8, while Rose-Hulman improved to 8-7.
In a match that featured 35 ties and 20 lead changes, DePauw held a 12-11 lead in the opening set before Rose-Hulman rattled off eight straight points and gained control. The Tigers trailed, 23-19 in the second set, but rallied to score the final six and take the set to even the match.
DePauw jumped out to a 15-7 lead in the third set before the hosts started to chip away and eventually take a 19-18 lead. The points went back-and-forth and DePauw fought off four match-points before gaining a 28-27 advantage. Rose-Hulman then scored the set's final three points to take a 2-1 lead. The Tigers led, 13-10, in the fourth set and it was still tied at 17-17 before the Fightin' Engineers won four-straight points to start a match-clinching 8-3 run.
Olive Karwin led the Tigers with 15 kills and
Ashley Haas followed with 12, while
Avery Christy had a team-high 18 assists and
Kendall Herrick chipped in 16.
Katie Gansle,
Grace Myers and Haas each had two of the Tigers' seven service aces and Myers recorded a team-best 24 digs. Haas led the way with two total blocks.
Megan Korte led Rose-Hulman with 17 kills and Allie Fults followed with 13 with Sophia Harrison and Jillian Gregg each assisting 25 times. Sophia Koop had eight of The Fightin; Engineers' 17 aces with Lily Ebright finishing with a match-high 32 digs. and Fults totaling three blocks.
Rose-Hulman outhit DePauw .218-.161 and held a 55-47 edge in kills.
DePauw travels to Kenyon on Saturday, Oct. 1, for a 1 p.m. North Coast Athletic Conference match against the Owls.
