Anderson, Ind. - DePauw moved to 2-0 on the season following a 55-0 win at Anderson. The Ravens dropped to 0-2.
The Tigers drove to the Anderson 14 on the game's first drive, but
Joseph Sullivan's 31-yard field goal was off the mark.Â
DePauw quarterback
Wally Renie tossed a 16-yard scoring pass to
Jaylon Smith on the final play of the first quarter and the two teamed for a 31-yard score on the Tigers' next series to make it 14-0.
Gus Baumgartner's 2-yard run with 4:39 left in the half made it 21-0 and a DePauw defensive stand followed by a short Anderson punt gave the Tigers the ball at the Anderson 36. Four plays later Renie connected with
Will Kaster for a 3-yard score to push the lead to 28-0 with 1:24 left in the half.
Another three-and-out and an Anderson punt gave the Tigers the ball at the their own 49.
Jack Drake nailed a 46-yard field goal with one second left in the half to extend the lead to 31-0.
The DePauw defense stopped the hosts on downs at the DePauw 18 on the opening series of the second half.Â
Drew Moore carried for 22 and eight yards on the first two plays before
Nathan McCahill scampered for a 23-yard gain to the Anderson 29. McCahill then tossed a 29-yard scoring pass to
Robby Ballentine to make it 38-0. Following the extra-point attempt the teams were forced off the field due to lightning for just over two hours.
McCahill's 10-yard run on the first play of the fourth and
Ben Gomez's 34-yard field goal extended the lead to 48-0 before Calen Whitehead scored from the 1 with 5:16 remaining to end the scoring.
DePauw outgained Anderson, 487-162 including a 343-48 margin on the ground.
Baumgartner rushed for 86 yards on 15 carries, while Renie completed 9-of-16 passes for 98 yards and rushed for another 43. Smith led the Tigers' receivers with three catches for 51 yards and two scores.
Nathan Clayton completed 16-of-31 passes for 114 yards and Julian Holguin had four catches for 34 yards.
Jonathan Bruder led DePauw with five tackles and fored a fumble while
Luke Soultz and
Nathan Creed had one interception each.
DePauw opens defense of its North Coast Athletic Conference championship on Saturday, Sept. 17, with a Noon game at Hiram.
