Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw battled back from an early 1-0 deficit and topped visiting Centre, 3-1 in the season opener for both schools at Reavis Stadium.
Peyton Gahm lifted the Colonels to a 1-0 advantage midway through the first period, but DePauw knotted the score on
Margaret Volpe's score that came following a corner as time expired.
Volpe then added a second score just 4:49 later on
Hailey Nowak's assist and
Allison Quackenbush rounded out the scoring with an assist from Nowak with 8:17 left in the third.
DePauw outshot Centre, 12-10 but the Tigers had a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. The Colonels also led in corners, 5-2.
DePauw's
Scarlett Oaks recorded three saves and Centre's Carlie McKenry stopped two of the Tigers' shots.
The victory also was
Olivia Shagam's first as a collegiate head coach.
The Tigers return to action on Sunday, September 4, with a Noon game against Sewanee at Reavis Stadium.
