DePauw Rallies for Doubleheader Sweep of Little Giants

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw extended its win streak to nine and moved into a tie for the fourth and final North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament spot after sweeping a doubleheader from visiting Wabash by scores of 6-5 and 5-4. The Tigers improved to 19-15 overall and 10-6 in the NCAC, while the Little Giants dropped to 20-15 overall and 4-12 in conference play.

In the opener, Wabash got on the board first as Reece Bauer drew a one-out walk and moved to second on a passed ball. Austin Simmers followed with a base hit to right, but an overthrow to the plate allowed Bauer to score.

The Tigers countered with three in the third with Brennan Roach leading off with a single before Cameron Macon walked. Kyle Callahan reached on a fielder's choice that forced Macon at second. Danny Glimco then hammered the first pitch he saw over the fence in left center.

Wabash regained the lead in the fourth as Evan Neukam led off with a walk and moved to second on Kamden Earley's sacrifice bunt and to third on a wild pitch. Camden Scheidt followed with a single that scored Neukam. After Michael Galanos walked, Bauer drove in two with a double to left to make it 4-3.

DePauw took the lead for good in the seventh as Nick Nelson drew a one-out walk and Macon followed with a single before Kyle Callahan delivered a three-run homer to center which was his NCAC-leading 11th of the season.

Bauer doubled with one out in the top of the eighth before AJ Reid walked with two outs and Liam Patton followed with an RBI single to close the DePauw lead to 6-5. DePauw reliever EJ White struck out the final batter of the eighth and retired the side in order in the ninth to seal the Tigers' victory.

In the nightcap, Wabash jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on Patton's two-run homer to left and extended it to 4-0 in the third when Scheidt doubled home Simmers and scored on Neukam's sacrifice fly.

DePauw got on the board in the fifth as Danny Sheehan led off with a single and advanced to second on a throwing error from the outfield. Evans Barnes singled with one out, scoring Sheehan. Another throwing error on the play allowed Barnes to move to second. Nelson hit a two-out single through the left side which scored Barnes and cut the Wabash lead to 4-2.
