Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw women's tennis team fell to Centre College 7-2 at home, moving to 1-7 overall, while the Colonels improved to 3-2.
The Colonels jumped to a 1-0 lead after Ella Rueff and Lainey Hill defeated Kiley Shaw and Kate Stanely 8-4 at number two. Centre's Maddy Trinh and Caroline Lancaster beat Lindsay Parks and Alex Preston 8-6 at number three. Ellen Gardner and Kat Wilder came from behind to defeat the Colonels' Katharine Sherman and Hannah Doherty 8-7 at number one, putting the Tigers on the board.
In singles play, Centre continued to pull ahead. The Colonels Hannah Doherty defeated Kat Wilder 6-1, 6-1 at number two, followed by Caroline Lancaster beating Lindsay Parks 6-1, 6-4 at number six. Up 4-1, Centre clinched the victory over DePauw after Lainey Hill defeated Kate Stanley 6-2, 6-1 at number four.
The Tigers continued to battle in its remaining sets despite the Colonels winning two more matches. At number five, Maddy Trinh beat Bella DeNardo 6-2, 6-1; followed by Ella Rueff defeating Kiley Shaw 6-4, 6-2 at number three. In the afternoon's final match, Ellen Gardner earned her second comeback of the day after defeating Katharine Sherman 6-7, 6-1, 10-8.
DePauw is back at home Saturday, March 5, against Principia at 10:30 am EST.
