Box Score Greencastle, Ind. - Visiting Wabash scored nine-straight points midway through the second half to an extend a four-point lead to 13 and the 20th-ranked Little Giants left with an 81-72 North Coast Athletic Conference win. DePauw dropped to 10-12 overall and 7-9 in the NCAC in the Tigers' home finale and head coach Bill Fenlon's swan song in Neal Fieldhouse. Wabash improved to 20-3 overall and 15-1 in the NCAC.
The contest started with Wabash's Jack Davidson hitting four 3-pointers in the opening 4:09 to give the Little Giants a 12-4 lead. The Tigers clawed back on a bucket from Nolan Niego and a pair of threes from Elijah Hales to even the count at 12-12. Wabash led by no more than six the rest of the half and held a 36-32 advantage at the break.
The Little Giants gradually stretched the lead in the second half as Tyler Watson knocked in a jumper and, following a DePauw offensive foul, Davidson converted a three-point play to make it 51-40 with 14:44 remaining. Ronald Johnson, Hales and Grant Niego nailed treys on consecutive possessions to trim the Wabash lead to 58-54 with 11:15 left.
Jesse Hall responded with a driving layup before Kellen Schreiber converted a three-point play following a DePauw miss. Schreiber and Sam Comer then added baskets which gave Wabash its largest lead of the game at 67-54 at the 8:54 mark. DePauw was within eight on two occasions the rest of the way, but each time Wabash countered and held on for the win.
Haled led DePauw with 23 points and five rebounds, while Grant Niego followed with 15 and seven rebounds. Nolan Niego added 13 points and Johnson finished with 11.
Davidson led all scorers with 26 with Watson adding 20 and eight assists. Jesse Hall followed with 14 and Schreiber added 10.
DePauw shot 42.1 percent from the floor, but Wabash connected on 59.2 percent including 65.2 percent in the second half. Each team had seven turnovers and DePauw held a 27-26 rebounding edge.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, February 19, with a 3 p.m. NCAC game at Ohio Wesleyan.
