Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw women's tennis team fell to Chicago 9-0 at home, moving to 0-3 for the year.
The Maroons got an early lead over the Tigers after securing two 8-0 doubles wins. Eugenia Lee and Claudia Ng defeated Kate Stanley and Kiley Shaw 8-0 at No. 2. Chicago's Shianna Guo and Sylwia Mikos beat Kat Wilder and Ellen Gardner 8-0 at No. 1. The Maroons swept doubles play after Miranda Yuan, and Annika Pandey beat Bella DeNardo and Alex Preston 8-0.
In singles play, Claudia Ng defeated Kate Stanley 6-0, 6-0 to put the Maroons up by four matches to none, in the No. 3 match. Chicago's Sylwia Mikos would secure the Maroons victory after beating Ellen Gardner 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1.
The Tigers dropped the remaining matches to complete Chicago's match sweep. Shianna Guo beat Kat Wilder 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2, while Miranda Yuan defeated Bella DeNardo 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 5 match. The final two losses came in match No. 4, where Nicole Gellar defeated Kiley Shaw 6-1, 6-3, who battled to extend the match, and in the No. 6 match, Eugenia Lee beat Alex Preston 6,0, and 6-1.
DePauw's next set of home matches is set for Saturday, February 19, against Wooster and WashU at 8 am and 4:30 pm, respectively.
