Box Score Oberlin, Ohio- An early 10-0 run by host Oberlin forced the DePauw men's basketball team to play catchup from the start, ultimately leading to the Yeomen winning 71-57 over the Tigers, ending its three-game win streak. DePauw drops to 10-11 overall and 7-8 in the NCAC, while Oberlin improves to 6-15 overall and 4-11 in conference play.
The Yeomen's early jump on the Tigers and its ability to hold DePauw to just 10 for 28 from the field kept the Tigers battling from behind for the entire game.
After seven scoreless minutes, Elijah Hales sank a three to get the Tigers on the board. That three kickstarted a steady comeback for DePauw, using its three-point shooting to cut the lead to just two points heading into halftime. Cooper Mixon led the Tigers at the half with 11 points, shooting 100% from behind the arc and going 2 for 2 at the line.
In the second half, the Yeomen continued where it left off and ballooned its two-point lead to 11, following a turnover by the Tigers. Down by double digits, Hales composed himself following a turnover and drained back-to-back shots to keep DePauw's comeback hopes alive.
In the final five minutes of play, Oberlin had an answer on its end for every Tigers basket, keeping DePauw just out of reach as time wound down. Oberlin's rebounding dominance and its ability to move the ball around the halfcourt proved to be too much for DePauw to come back from in the end.
In the end, Hales led all scorers with 20 points while grabbing a team-high five rebounds, while Mixon finished the afternoon with 17 points and three rebounds.
Pacing Oberlin's offense was Dimitrije Radusinovi, with 26 points and seven rebounds, followed closely by Dorde Otasevic with 23 points, five rebounds, three assists, and steals and blocks.
DePauw returns to Neal Fieldhouse on Wednesday, February 16, to face Wabash College at 8 pm EST, directly after the women's basketball game against Denison at 6 pm EST.
