Anderson, Ind. - DePauw used a 13-2 run in the second half to pull away from host Anderson and earn an 89-81 win over the Ravens in the season opener for both teams and the first game for
Rusty Loyd as DePauw's head coach.
The Tigers built an 8-point lead at 22-14 with 12 minutes left in the opening half, but the Ravens quickly scored the next five to start a 12-2 run. Anderson eventually led by as many as six with 1:21 left in the half and went to the intermission with a 39-37 advantage.
The second half started as a back-and-forth battle with DePauw gaining the lead for good at 53-50 on
Kyle Lillwitz's 3-pointer with 13:30 remaining.Â
The lead was still three at 60-57 before the Tigers scored the next nine starting with an
Elijah Hales bucket, another three from Lillwitz and baskets from Hales and Lillwitz to make it 69-57 with 5:19 left.
Hales led the Tigers with 25 points, while Lillwitz and
Ronald Johnson each had 15 and
Sam Jacobs added 10.
Grant Niego led with seven rebounds and
Grant Gohmann dished out five assists.
Camden Smith paced Anderson with 25 followed by Tate Ivanyo with 21 and Bryson Huckeby with 12. Huckeby grabbed six rebounds and Smith handed out four assists.
DePauw shot 56.9 percent from the floor with Anderson shooting 50.8 percent. The Tigers held a 27-26 edge on the boards and outscored the Ravens in the paint, 48-36.
The Tigers host Rose-Hulman on Friday, November 11, at 7 p.m.
