DePauw Splits Weekend Games Following Loss to Wisconsin Lutheran

Wauwatosa, Wis. - DePauw split its opening weekend games at the Paul F. Knueppel Classic after a 64-56 loss to the host Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors. Both teams are 1-1.

The Tigers' Ava Hassel, an all-Classic selection, knocked in a 3-pointer in the opening two minutes but that was the only lead DePauw held in the game.

The Warriors led after the first quarter, 18-7. DePauw briefly trimmed the deficit to single digits, but the hosts pulled away for a 33-17 halftime lead. The margin reached 19 early in the third and was still 17 as the teams headed to the fourth.

Wisconsin Lutheran scored the first bucket of the fourth period to push the lead to 19 before DePauw scored 11 straight to start an 18-6 run to close the gap to 57-50 with just over one minute left. The Warriors hit one of two free throws on the next possession, but got the offensive rebounds and then hit two charity tosses to push the lead back to 10 with 37 seconds left.

Hassel led DePauw with a career-high 23 points, while Riley Mont also posted a collegiate-high with 14 along with eight rebounds. Diana Burgher also grabbed eight rebounds as the Tigers held a 41-34 edge on the boards.

Sam Leisemann paced Wisconsin Lutheran with 17 points with Meggie Scott chipping in 11 and Kaitlyn Shadwoski adding 10. Ella Ten Pas hauled down a game-high 11 rebounds.

DePauw travels to Rock Island, Ill., where it'll face Wisconsin-Oshikosh on Friday, Nov. 18, in Augustana College's Hyatt Place Tournament. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CST.
