Rock Island, Ill. - DePauw, which trailed by as many as 10 points early in the second period, battled back to briefly take the lead in the fourth, but Wisconsin-Oshkosh put together a 13-4 run to pull away from the Tigers on the way to a 56-48 win in Augustana College's Hyatt Place Tournament.Â
DePauw, ranked 16th in the preseason coaches' poll, dropped to 1-2. Wisconsin-Oshkosh, ranked 18th in the coaches' poll and 22nd by D3hoops.com, improved to 5-0.
The Titans built as much as an 8-point lead in the first quarter and led, 14-8 at the break. Wisconsin-Oshkosh extended the lead to 20-10 early in the second. The DePauw deficit was still eight before
Ava Hassel and
Riley Mont closed the half with buckets to make it 26-22.
DePauw evened the score twice in the third before the Titans held a 37-36 lead as the game entered the final period.
Diana Burgher's basket in the opening minute of the fourth gave the Tigers a 38-37 advantage, but Wisconsin-Oshkosh countered with four-straight to start a 13-4 run and extend the lead back to eight.
Hassel led the Tigers with 15 points and Burgher added 12 and Mont 11.
Lyla Barr grabbed 10 rebounds in the loss.
Kayce Vaile led the Titans with 20 points and 20 rebounds with Jenna Jorgensen chipping in 10 points.
DePauw shot 34.4 percent from the field to the Titans' 35.6 percent and each team grabbed 38 rebounds.
The Tigers face Dubuque tomorrow at 2 p.m. CST after the Spartans dropped a 64-61 contest in the first game.
