Wauwatosa, Wis. - DePauw, ranked 16th in the preseason coaches' poll, never trailed on the way to a 73-42 win in the season opener at the Paul F. Knueppel Classic hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran.
The Tigers jumped out to an 18-11 lead after the first quarter before extending it to 31-20 at the intermission. DePauw outscored the Vikings, 22-8, in the third to put the game away.
Mya Shannon paced DePauw with 16 points, while
Moira McGinley followed with 12 and
Ava Hassel added 11. McGinley and
Diana Burgher led with six rebounds, while Hassel and
Alina Prusko each dished out four assists and Hassel had four steals.
Alexis Cloyd led Bethany Lutheran with 14 points and Annika Younge grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Tigers shot 41.9 percent from the floor and hit 10-of-26 3-pointers, while the Vikings connected on 23.1 percent from the floor. DePauw held a 43-34 rebounding edge in the win.
The Tigers face Wisconsin Lutheran at 3 p.m. CST tomorrow.
