Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw came out strong and dominated the opening set, but visiting Greenville rallied to take the next three and a 3-1 (11-25, 25-23, 25-21, 26-24) match victory over the Tigers. DePauw dropped to 7-10, while the Panthers improved to 11-5.
The Tigers hit .458 in the opening set with 12 of the points coming off of kills. DePauw looked poised to take a 2-0 lead in the match after taking a 23-20 lead, but Greenville rallied by closing out the set on a 5-0 run. The Panthers led nearly the entire third set and fought off a pair of set points in the fourth and finished by winning the final four points to seal the victory.
Olivia Karwin led the Tigers with 11 kills and
Lauren Ridgway followed with 10, while
Avery Christy totaled 24 assists and Karwin. Christy had four of the Tigers' 10 service aces with Karwin chipping in three.
Grace Myers led the defensive effort with 26 digs and Ridgway finished with six block assists.
Mia Bonacorsi paced Greenville with 10 kills, while Kaitlin Murray had 21 assists and Amanda Hollis 20. Chasity Hill had a team-high 19 digs with Madison Schmidt and Lainey Hicks each finishing with four block assists.
DePauw outhit Greenville, .154-.109, but the Panthers held a 49-43 edge in kills. DePauw totaled 9.0 team blocks to Greenville's 7.0.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, October 8, when they host Wooster in a 1 p.m. North Coast Athletic Conference match.
