Tigers Fall Short in 3-2 Loss to Falcons

Greencastle, Ind.: Suffering its first loss since September, the DePauw field hockey team came up short in its 3-2 loss to the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons. The Tigers move to 10-5 overall, while the Falcons improve to 6-6 for the season.

Within the first two minutes of play, Marley Heitman found Allison Quackenbush in front of the Falcons' cage to put DePauw up 1-0.

In the second period, however, Concordia Wisconsin came storming back with two goals to secure a 2-1 lead over DePauw. The first goal was an unassisted goal by the Falcons' leading scorer Lorri Pitock, who also assisted Berit Poirier at the 27-minute mark.

Concordia Wisconsin began to pull away from DePauw in the 41st minute when Lorri Pitock tallied her second assist of the day after finding Ella Maltby to put the Falcons up 3-1.

With time winding down, the Tigers' Libby Hennelly created a scoring opportunity for teammate Hailey Nowak, who then deflected the ball into the back of the Falcons' cage to put DePauw within one. Unfortunately for the Tigers, its efforts were too late in the game to knot the match up, resulting in just its fifth loss of the season.

Despite the score, the Tigers outshot its opponents 15 to 4 and recorded eight penalty corners to Concordia Wisconsin's two. The Falcons' goalkeeper Emily Binley finished the day with five saves.

The Tigers return to Reavis Stadium on Wednesday, October 26, at 5 p.m. against the Earlham College Quakers.

I chose DePauw for multiple reasons. I enjoy how the school is on the small size and that it is only a four-hour drive home to Milwaukee.
