Springfield, Ohio-Â Extending its win streak to seven, the DePauw field hockey team moved to 6-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference play after its 3-0 win over Wittenberg. The Tigers improved to 10-4 overall and recorded their fourth-consecutive shutout, while Wittenberg dropped to 6-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
After a slow start in the first period, DePauw found its footing and scored not one but two goals in the period. In the 25th minute, quick reflexes by Marley Heitman snuck a rebounded ball through the goalies' legs and put the Tigers up by one. DePauw's second goal came with just under 20 seconds left by Alexandra May, whose persistence led to a quick put-back goal after saving her first two attempts.
At the half, the DePauw Tigers outshot Wittenberg 8-2 and tallied five penalty corners to its opponent's two penalty corner attempts.
Following a quiet third period, DePauw took its time to find its third goal in the fourth period. At the 52-minute mark, Heitman connected with Lilly Harris, giving the DePauw Tigers a 3-0 lead with eight minutes left in regulation.
DePauw's Bella Lauber finished the afternoon with one save, while Wittenberg's Emma Hurguy tallied six saves across the afternoon.
The DePauw Tigers return to Greencastle, Ind., on Thursday, October 20, to host Concordia Wisconsin at 1 pm.
