Gambier, Ohio- Bouncing back from its home loss this past Wednesday, the DePauw women's soccer team improves to 2-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference play after beating the Kenyon College Owls 1-0 on the road.
From the first whistle, the Tigers came out looking to score. After putting up three shots on goal and adding fresh legs to the attacking line,
Jess Purtee dribbled past her last defender and found the back of the Owls' net, recording her first career goal, to put DePauw up 1-0 with 22 minutes left in the half.
Looking to extend its lead, the Tigers continued its offensive attack, putting up seven shots to the Owls' four. With the lead and just over 10 minutes left, however, DePauw had to adjust to playing with just ten members after a red card was issued to goalie
Emma St. John.
Despite being down a player, the Tigers remained composed and continued to control the pace of the game, giving up just one shot in the final ten minutes of regulation.
DePauw's St. John completed the game with four saves, while Kenyon's Leah Anderson recorded five.
DePauw moves to 7-3-3 and travels to Granville, Ohio, to face Denison University on Tuesday, October 18, for a 4 p.m. game.
