Box Score Springfield, Ohio - Seventh-ranked DePauw shot jsut 16.9 percent from the floor and dropped a 41-37 contest to host Wittenberg. DePauw fell to 5-1, while Wittenberg improved to 1-3.
DePauw trailed by as many as five in the first half before closing the gap to 22-20 at the intermission. The visiting Tigers opened the second half on a 6-0 run to take their largest lead of the game at 26-22 with 6:55 remaining in the third. The stretch started with an Emma LeMasters layup before Hayley Cange scored off her own rebound and Grace Kinsey knocked in a pair of free throws. Those, however, would be all of DePauw's points for the quarter as Wittenberg closed the frame by scoring 10 straight for a 32-26 advantage after three. DePauw closed the gap to two on a couple of occasions, but the hosts knocked in four free throws in the final 23 seconds to seal the victory.
DePauw hit 10-of-59 field goals and only 3-of-24 from beyond the arc, while Wittenberg shot 36.1 percent from the floor. DePauw held a 40-22 edge on the boards and grabbed 20 on the offensive glass for an 11-0 lead in second-chance points.
The Tigers return to action on Friday, February 26, when they host Ohio Wesleyan in a 7 p.m. contest.
