Box Score St. Petersburg, Fla. - DePauw shot a season-best 51.5 percent from the floor and wrapped up play at the St. Pete Classic with an 84-47 win over LaGrange. The Tigers, ranked sixth in the latest coaches' poll and ninth by D3hoops.com, moved to 10-1 on the season, while the Panthers dropped to 7-5.
The Tigers scored the game's first 11 points and never trailed on the way to the victory. LaGrange did close the gap to two at 20-18 with four minutes left in the second quarter, but a quick 12-2 run pushed the Tigers to a 12-point advantage and they went to the halftime leading, 32-22.
The Panthers briefly trimmed the deficit to single digits in the third, but the Tigers scored the next six and continued to pull away.
Mya Shannon led the Tigers with 14 points followed by Grace Kinsey with 11 and Moira McGinley with 10. Campbell Montgomery grabbed seven boards as the Tigers outrebounded LaGrange, 47-28. Ava Hassel dished out a game-high four assists.
Jada Brown paced the Panthers with 10 points and Karson Toth hauled down seven rebounds.
In addition to shooting 51.5 percent from the field, the Tigers hit 7-of-18 3-pointers with LaGrange connecting on 30.9 percent.
DePauw returns to action on Wednesday, December 29, when it faces Milwaukee School of Engineering in the opening game of the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. with Piedmont and Franklin scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
